Description

When the first German soldiers entered Poland on 1 September 1939 it was not really clear that this conflict, a European territorial war, would become the world's largest and most destructive war ever fought. In this winter no-one thought that this war would be fought on all continents, in all oceans and in the air, leaving no-one unaffected by it.

During the 2,194 days of war after this infamous 1 September 1939, and the unconditional Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri in the Tokyo bight lie over 50,000,000 dead, more than twice this number in any other way casualties of war, towns, cities, whole regions were emptied of inhabitants and devastated.
