'''Battle of Italy 1943 - 1945: ToTPP v018.4 and Lua'''

In Casablanca, Morocco, in January 1943, Allied leaders decided to use their massive military resources in the Mediterranean, once the Tunisian campaign was

completed, to launch an invasion of Italy, which British Prime Minister Winston Churchill called the 'soft underbelly of Europe'.

The objectives were to remove Italy from World War II, secure the Mediterranean Sea and force Germany to divert some divisions from the Russian front and other

German divisions from northern France, where the Allies were planning their cross-Channel landing at Normandy, France.

As an absolute precursor to any invasion of the Italian mainland itself, the Allied Combined Chiefs of Staff mandated that the island of Sicily needed to be

secured first, so that it could serve as the primary base of operation against Italy. Thus the plans for "Operation Husky", the greatest amphibious invasion of the

war to date, were drawn up.

Can you as the Allied Commander of Allied Forces in the Mediterranen quickly conquer the island, bring about the capitulation of Italy and swift conquest of the

peninsula? Or will you be stymied by the daunting Axis defenses as were your historical counterparts?

''The invasion fleet for Operation Avalanche approaches the Italian mainland. Where will it land? ''

== Victory Conditions ==
There are a number of ways for the Allied player to win or lose the game.

• You can win an automatic decisive victory if you control all 28 objective city points; or
• You can win an a marginal victory if you control 24 objective city points

You can suffer an automatic defeat if you fail to:

• Capture 14 objective city points by the end of turn 49 (July I, 1944), or
• Capture 19 objective points by the end of turn 62 (October II, 1944).

== House Rules ==
There are no house rules in this scenario though I strongly recommend that the players review the Game Tips and Concepts menu (keyboard "6"):

For more important information, please read the scenario's Readme file.

== Special Note==

== Victory Conditions ==

== House Rules ==
There are no house rules in this scenario though I strongly recommend that the players review the Game Tips and Concepts menu (keyboard "6"):
World War II witnessed the advent of all elements of modern warfare as we know them today; airborne troops and special forces, guided munitions and ballistic missiles, the main battle tank and field radios, individual fieldcraft and camouflage, rotor and jet aircraft, aircraft carriers and strategic airpowers, radar and sonar. The huge popularity of World War II scenarios has allowed this short period of less six years to have its own section. Relive battles from all the major campaigns of the War including the Fall of France and Low Countries, North Africa, Barbarossa, D-Day, the Pacific Theatre and the Atlantic War.
'''Napoléon I: ToTPP v015.1 and Lua UPDATED to version 1.5'''

"On December 2nd, 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte coronated himself as Emperor of France. By placing the crown upon his head with his own hands, Bonaparte brought Europe to the brink of war. For by its very nature, the act of self-coronation threatened the rule and challenged the legitimacy of every government then in existence.

To safeguard the sanctity of divine right and position based on noble birth, the European monarchies branded Bonaparte an international outlaw and pledged to remain at war with France until the Corsican usurper was overthrown and the Bourbon rule restored.

For the next ten years, the fate of the French Empire rested on the abilities of one man; as a warrior, and as a peacemaker."

Can you as the Emperor of France do better than your historical counterpart and become the absolute ruler of Europe or will you meet the same fate and find yourself exiled on a remote and desolate island to live out your remaining days?

== Screenshots ==

''Smolensk, a roadblock on the way to Moskva during the invasion of Russia. ''

== Victory Conditions ==
There are a number of ways for the French player to win or lose the game.

You can win a decisive victory if you control 11 of more objective cities.

You can suffer an automatic decisive defeat if either:
• Paris is captured by the Coalition, or
• Napoleon is killed a second time in battle.

== House Rules ==
There are eight house rules in this scenario that I strongly recommend human
players adhere to, which are:

Firstly, changing city names is not permissible. A number of events apply to
specific cities and altering names will render them inactive.

Secondly, it is forbidden to build new roads or upgrade to cobbled roads
on the ‘European’ map.

Thirdly, the building of new cities is prohibited.

Fourthly, French "Sapeurs" may only build Siege Works tile improvements.

Fifthly, pillaging of roads and cobbled roads is prohibited.

Sixthly, it is STRICTLY forbidden to re-home any of your French minor power units.

Seventhly, the ONLY production that is EVER allowed for the cities on the
‘European Powers’ map is the ‘(Money Market)’ improvement.

Eighthly, it is equally forbidden from reassigning the citizens of your cities on
the ‘European Powers’ map to other tiles.

For more important information, please read the scenario's Readme file.

'''Please read the scenario's new v1.3 Readme file as it has been updated and contains new valuable information on the house rules and game concepts'''

== Special Note==

I would like to extend a very special note of gratitude to my partner Knighttime whose invaluable lua programming skills made this project possible.

A thank you to John Petroski, McMonkey, Northerner, countmc and Techumseh for all their play testing and invaluable feedback, which I hope served to make version 1.1 a better scenario.

A special thank you to countmc, who revealed some unforseen logic errors in the event file that have contributed to release version 1.2.

A thank you to countmc and Prof. Garfield for their suggestions, many of which were incorporated into version 1.3

== Special Instructions==
IMPORTANT - This game is designed to be played as the French player ONLY. Do not even attempt to play any other power!

IMPORTANT - You must run the “Napoleon_ONE” batch file, and select option #1 before you begin the game!

IMPORTANT - The scenario has been designed around TheNamelessOne's TOTPP version 0.15.1 ([https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/the-test-of-time-patch-project.517282/page-47#post-15089974]). You must have it installed to play the game

VERY IMPORTANT - You must install the lua folder, which is included in the v 0.15.1 ZIP file (and which includes the civlua.lua, functions.lua and init.lua files), in the root directory of your Civilization Test of Time folder

== Downloads ==

Install version 1.3 into a 'Napoléon' folder in your ToT main folder. Please delete any previous version first if you had already installed one. There are 3 'new' sound files in the main scenario folder which you simply need to copy and add to the main Sound folder.

Note: you can replace the current version of the units.bmp file with the attached file located in the Units_Nap_v1.3 zip. It contains newer Neapolitan, Polish and Spanish leader units.

Note: you can replace the current version of the event.lua file with the attached file located in the Events_Nap_v1_4.zip. It fixes a bug where the French treasury was being subtracted 50 gold when Spain rather than Russia was subdued.

Note: you can replace the current version of the event.lua file with the attached file located in the Events_Nap_v1_5.zip. It fixes a bug where French vessels were retaining 1 MP after receiving the 'European Ports' advance (aka Nuclear Power in base game).

'''Napoléon I: ToTPP v015.1 and Lua UPDATED to version 1.3'''

== Victory Conditions ==
There are a number of ways for the French player to win or lose the game.

You can win a decisive victory if you control 11 of more objective cities.

You can suffer an automatic decisive defeat if either:
• Paris is captured by the Coalition, or
• Napoleon is killed a second time in battle.

== House Rules ==

== Special Note==

'''Napoléon I: ToTPP v015.1 and Lua UPDATED to version 1.3'''

== Victory Conditions ==
There are a number of ways for the French player to win or lose the game.

You can win a decisive victory if you control 11 of more objective cities.

You can suffer an automatic decisive defeat if either:
• Paris is captured by the Coalition, or
• Napoleon is killed a second time in battle.

== House Rules ==

== Special Note==

Fourthly, French "Sapeurs" may only build Siege Works tile improvements.

Fifthly, pillaging of roads and cobbled roads is prohibited.
‘European Powers’ map is the ‘(Money Market)’ improvement.

Eighthly, it is equally forbidden from reassigning the citizens of your cities on
== Special Note==

'''Napoléon I: ToTPP v015.1 and Lua UPDATED to version 1.2'''

''Smolensk, a roadblock on the way to Moskva during the invasion of Russia. ''

== Victory Conditions ==
There are a number of ways for the French player to win or lose the game.

You can win a decisive victory if you control 11 of more objective cities.

You can suffer an automatic decisive defeat if either:
• Paris is captured by the Coalition, or
• Napoleon is killed a second time in battle.

== House Rules ==
There are eight house rules in this scenario that I strongly recommend human
players adhere to, which are:

Firstly, changing city names is not permissible. A number of events apply to
specific cities and altering names will render them inactive.

VERY IMPORTANT - You must install the lua folder, which is included in the v 0.15.1 ZIP file (and which includes the civlua.lua, functions.lua and init.lua files), in the root directory of your Civilization Test of Time folder

== Downloads ==

Install version 1.1 into a 'Napoléon' folder in your ToT main folder. Please delete version 1.0 first if you had already installed it. In addition to version 1.1, extract the events.lua and Napoleon.scn from the Updated Files v1.2 zip and place them into the 'Napoléon' folder in your ToT main folder (they will overwrite the exisitng 1.1 files). :
'''Napoléon I: ToTPP v015.1 and Lua UPDATED to version 1.2'''

''Smolensk, a roadblock on the way to Moskva during the invasion of Russia. ''

== Victory Conditions ==
There are a number of ways for the French player to win or lose the game.

You can win a decisive victory if you control 11 of more objective cities.

You can suffer an automatic decisive defeat if either:
• Paris is captured by the Coalition, or
• Napoleon is killed a second time in battle.

== House Rules ==

'''Please read the scenario's new v1.1 Readme file as it has been updated and contains new valuable information on the house rules and game concepts'''

== Special Note==

A special thank you to countmc, who revealed some unforseen logic error in the event file that have contributed to release version 1.2.

'''Napoléon I version 1.0: ToTPP v015.1 and Lua'''

On December 2nd, 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte coronated himself as Emperor of France.

For the next ten years, the fate of the French Empire rested on the abilities of one man; as a warrior, and as a peacemaker.

Can you as the Emperor of France do better than your historical counterpart and become the absolute ruler of Europe or will you meet the same fate and find yourself exiled on a remote and desolate island to live out your remaining days?

== Victory Conditions ==
There are a number of ways for the French player to win or lose the game.

You can win a decisive victory if you control 11 of more objective cities.

You can suffer an automatic decisive defeat if either:
• Paris is captured by the Coalition, or
• Napoleon is killed a second time in battle.

== House Rules ==

'''Please read the scenario's new v1.0 Readme file as it contains valuable information on the house rules and game concepts.'''

== Special Note==

I would like to extend a very special note of gratitude to my partner Knighttime whose invaluable lua programming skills made this project possible.

== Special Instructions==

== Downloads ==

Install version 1.0 into a 'Napoléon' folder in your ToT main folder:
The Age of Discovery was triggered by two parallel forces. One of these was the Renaissance, which was a period of new ideas and philosophies, including the important concept that reading was not the province of the clergy and nobility. The second was the development of naval technology to the state where Europe would explore and colonize the other the continents, which it came to do so. We have chosen to begin the period in 1492, the year of Christopher Columbus’ first voyage across the Atlantic. Scenarios from this period cover the Rise of the Naval Powers, Holy Roman Empire, American War of Independence and Napoleonic Wars.

"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” Sun Tzu

General Thieu, as part of the military junta that overthrew President Diem, you and your co-conspirator General Nguyen Coa Ky have been elevated to the posts of Head of State and Prime Minister, respectively.

As you are aware, South Vietnam is in the mist of a great struggle for survival and as the leaders of your nation, you must negotiate many political and military minefields. As such, will you be able to defeat, along with your allies, the internal rebellion and repel any North Vietnamese incursion into your lands and thereby secure a future for your people as an independent country.

== Victory Conditions ==
There are a number of ways for the SVN/US player to win/lose the game:

If you are able to Broaden the War and decide to invade North Vietnam, you must control Hanoi, Haiphong, Son La and Viet Tri at the beginning of October 1968, otherwise you suffer a defeat; or

If Johnson wins re-election in November 1968, by preventing the TET Offensive, you must hold on to all cities currently under your control (including any outside of the borders of South Vietnam) up to the November 1972 US election, otherwise McGovern is elected and the war continues; or

If Nixon is elected in November 1968, or McGovern in November 1972, you must prevent the NVN/NLF from capturing a sufficient number of objective cities to win a Marginal or Decisive victory by the end of the game in April 1975; or

Prevent the NVN/NLF from gaining an Automatic Victory by controlling both Saigon and Hue during the same turn.

== House Rules ==
There are ten house rules in this scenario that I '''strongly''' recommend humans players
adhere to:

Firstly, changing city names is not permissible. A number of events apply to specific cities and altering names will render them inactive.

Secondly, the pillaging of roads or highways is prohibited. It is equally forbidden to build new roads on the ‘South East Asia’ map though it is permitted to upgrade the existing roads to highways (aka Railroads).

Thirdly, given the limited time frame of the scenario, ten years, the building of new cities is prohibited.

Fourthly, it is forbidden to build any type of unit or city improvements in ANY of your cities situated on either the ‘Order of Battle’ or ‘Air’ maps, i.e. the ONLY production that is EVER allowed for these cities is the ‘(Foreign Aid)’ improvement.

Fifthly, it is equally forbidden from reassigning the citizens of your cities on either the ‘Order of Battle’ or ‘Air’ maps to other tiles than the ones they start the scenario in, nor is it permitted to assign them as entertainers (see Major Game Concept #17).

Sixthly, it is strictly forbidden from EVER re-homing any of your American, ANZAC, Korean or Thai units. They must ALWAYS stay homed to the city the event file assigned them to.

Seventhly, it is strictly forbidden to stack any air unit on top of your ground units. This is to prevent a player from blocking the AI from launching attacks against your ground troops.

Eighthly, it is strictly forbidden to place your air units on top of NVA Sanctuary tiles in order to prevent NVA units from spawning in them (only your ground units may occupy such tiles).

'''MODIFIED RULE:''' Ninthly, your air units may only attack enemy ground units that are either in enemy occupied cities or located next to your ground units, or that are visible within your city screen and may never attack any type of enemy unit from a road tile (see Major Game Concept #13).

Tenthly, your naval air units may only EVER be based and operate from your respective CVN Battlegroup units, which may themselves NEVER enter any of your friendly coastal cities.

'''NEW RULE:'''Eleventhly, CIDG Striker or Special forces units may NOT be used to capture enemy cities (see Major Game Concept #32).

'''Please read the scenario's new v2.0 Readme file as it has been updated and contains new valuable information on the house rules and game concepts.'''

== Special Note==

I would like to extend a special note of gratitude to Techumseh for designing a more natural and realistic looking set of South East Asian terrain graphics for v2.0 of the scenario.

I would also like to thank him and McMonkey for their invaluable assistance in playtesting version 1.0 which exposed a series of bugs and play balance issues which I have strived to address in version 2.

== Special Instructions==
IMPORTANT - This game is designed to be played as the South Vietnamese / American player ONLY. Do not even attempt to play as the North Vietnamese!

IMPORTANT - You must run the “Nam65” batch file, and select option #1 before you begin the game!

IMPORTANT - The scenario has been designed around TheNamelessOne's TOTPP version 0.131 ([https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/the-test-of-time-patch-project.517282/page-30#post-13908456]). You must have it installed to play the game

== Downloads ==

Install version 2.0 into a 'Vietnam 1965 - 1975' folder in your ToT main folder. Please delete version 1.0 first if you had already installed it:
The annihilation of Hiroshima in 1945 ushered in the Atomic Age. Allied victory had set the stage for a global tussle between the free powers of democracy and the communist regimes of the world. Man for the first time possessed the knowledge to go to the moon or wipe out civilization.
