- Thomas Jefferson, 1787

In response to the Tea Party and other protests, the British Parliament enacted the intolerable Acts to punish the colonies and declared Massachusetts to be in a state of rebellion. General Thomas Gage, appointed governor of Massachusetts, was instructed by King George's government to enforce royal authority in the troublesome colony.

What is the scenario about?

The historical background of the scenario is the American War of Independence at the end of the 18th century. Lead the American colonists through the struggle for freedom and independence or show the rest of the world that nobody should start making trouble with the British Empire and break down the revolution in the Thirteen Colonies.

Your primary target is to defeat your enemy, equal which side you are playing.

This scenario requires the latest official Civilization II ToT patch as well as the ToTPP version 0.15

Do I need to know historical background to play this scenario?
You can find the latest official Civiliazion 2 ToT patch here:

No, you don´t need it. I think you will have more fun if you actually don´t know what happened 250 years ago. It is a game which should make fun and should give you a chance to replay the history or create an alternative history. All events are going the correct historical timeline (it´s neccessary for a historical scenario) but should gives you also freedom to play your own game. It´s your choice how you defend your cities or attack enemy cities.

Create a new folder called "AWI" in your "The Test of Time/Original" directory.
Copy the following files into the "AWI" folder.

Governments:

Government switching is not allowed. The government of the Thirteen Colonies is Republic (Communism), the government of the British Empire is Monarchy (Republic).

The reason why I gave the Americans the Communism government is because they fought a war in their own country against an enemy. Even though not all Colonists supports the revolution the Americans never had any major problems with riots in their cities. I thought the Communism government should be represent this fact perfect.
To represent the Loyalists in the colonies there will be at random turns Loyalist uprisings throughout the colonies.

The British Empire got the Republic government to ensure some civil unrest in the occupied cities due to corruption and missing of social buildings like a Church, a Theater or a Town Hall.
Ingame graphics
I've changed some of the ingame graphics to make them propper for the scenario. If you would like to use them copy the tiles.dll file into your "The Test of Time" directory.
Please make a backup from the original tiles.dll before you replace it.

Civilizations:

Gameplay rules
There are five civilizations (British Empire, Thirteen Colonies, Spanish Empire, France, Iroquois Confederacy) in the scenario. Playable are only the British Empire or the Thirteen Colonies.
This scenario is designed for playing with the British Empire only. Your goal is to crush down the rebellion until January 1784 (maximum turns: 91).

You can have negotiantions with all civilizations except the British Empire or Thirteen Colonies, depending what playable Civilization you are playing with. The Iroquois Confederacy is allied with the British Empire.
The following cities must be under your control for a complete victory:

You can declare war on all Civilizations but you can´t destroy them. I would recommend not to attack the other European Civilizations. You won´t get any benefits by conquering their cities.
1x OBJECTIVE points=>
Bangor, Portsmouth, Providence, Trenton, Baltimore, Salisbury, Norfolk, New Bern, Wilmington, Savannah, Saratoga, Charlotte, Columbia and Augusta.

3x OBJECTIVE points=>
Charles Town, Philadelphia, New York, Boston

Improvements and technology tree:

The victory conditions are as followed:

You will see that you can´t build all improvements. It´s because I included a small technology tree into the game. You can ignore the research but you won´t be able to build the Continental troops (Infantry, Dragoons, Artillery) and maybe some important improvements or researching some special regiments later in game. So it´s your choice if you sell all Schools at the beginning of the game to get some money or if you invest it into research.
Decisive victory: >= 24 points

At the start of the game you can only build Minutemen and Militias (when playing with the Americans) or Loyalists and Mounted Militias (when playing with the British Empire). This should represent the fact that the Americans didn´t have an organized army at the start of the revolution. The same goes for Britain, recruiting new troops in the occupied cities would be unrealistic.
Marginal victory: >= 13 points

If you are playing with the Americans you should hold Valley Forge unter winter 1777/1778. Historical Valley Forge was the winter headquarter for Washington and his troops. During the winter months the Prussian General von Steuben trained the troops and starts organizing the Continental Army. If you hold this winter camp you will get the Continental technology, which will allow you to research Infantry Drill (Continental Line), Cavalry Drill (Continental Dragoons) and Artillery Drill (Continental Artillery).
Marginal defeat: <= 13 points

If you are playing with the British Empire you should conquer all naval cities. I think if Britain controlls all American seaports it would be difficult for the Americans to win the war. If you are controlling all seaports you will be able to produce Infantry, Dragoons and Artillery in all occupied cities.
Decisive defeat: <= 4 points

When playing with Britain you can research Hessian and British Reinforcements. The King will raise up regiments which will be available in London. Build East Indiamen to transport them into the new world. Beware of American Privateers.

- Regular British troops are only recruitable in London.

Special units:
- In the colonies are only Loyalist regiments available.

- Technology research is disabled as it is a typical war scenario.

In the game there will be special units available (i.e. Morgan's Rifles, Stockbridge Mohicans for the Americans)(i.e. Highlanders, 33rd Foot Infantry, Butler's Rangers for the British Empire). You cannot build them and they will be spawning only via events or if you research a special technology (the technology has the same name as the regiment)
- Capturing all coastal cities until June 1778 (Turn 24) will avoid French intervention.

- You gets via LUA offers from the Hessians for hiring mercenaries.

Colonists and Engineers:
- Capturing cities near plantations will give you the decission to free the slaves (earning money) or drafting them into your army (new unit).

- The abilities of Noble Citizens (Diplomats) are limited.

Use them only for irrigate terrain or building roads. Don´t use them for building/rebuilding cities, please.
- The government of the British Empire is an Administrative Monarchy (Republic). The governement of the Americans are Republic (Communism).

- European cities are only for trading. Don't waste time and uníts for conquering them.

Spys and Iroquois Scouts:
- Native Indians are your allies.

Use them only for investigate enemy cities, please.
