The Industrial Revolution was a consequence of various mechanical inventions, such as the internal combustion engine which was patented in 1826, which led to a huge jump in manufacturing productivity. Concurrently, the upheaval caused by the introduction of new transport and communication technologies made the dream of a functioning global empire a possibility for the first time since man walked the Earth. Scenarios from this period cover Militarism in Europe, the colonization of Africa, American and Russian Civil Wars, Pax Britannica and of course World War I.
